Irpinia Aglianico D.O.C.
The
ancient Greeks decided to plant the Aglianico
vine - then called Vitis Hellenica - on the soil of the Irpinia area.
Aglianico grapes mature late and gradually and are harvested from
mid-October to November. The characteristics of the Irpinia’s
slopes,
which are high altitude and the differences of temperature allow a long
ripeness of the Aglianico grape variety.
Grape varieties:
85% Aglianico, 15% Merlot.
Production area:
our
vineyards are located in the hilly area comprising the municipalities
of Luogosano, S. Angelo All’Esca and Taurasi. Altitude: 350
meters
a.s.l.
Soil type:
clayey – calcareous.
Vinification:
the
grapes, hand-picked from the end of October to the beginning of
November, are selected in the vineyard and in the cellar. A
pre-fermentation cold maceration follows to optimise the extraction of
fruity aromas and colour. Once alcoholic fermentation is finished, 50%
of the wine is matured in barrels, 50% in stainless steel vats where it
is left to age for six months. Ageing takes place in the bottle for 3
months.
Organoleptic features:
colour: deep ruby red; nose: aromas of blackberry, red currant and ripe
black cherry with pleasant spicy and vanilla notes. mouth: soft,
structured on the palate with velvety tannins.
Food
match: particularly suitable to
accompany roast meats, games and hard
cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C. Uncork bottle one
hour before serving.
